This event is aimed at people who cycle into Reading for work or leisure and those who would like to.
We will explain that while much is being done about cycling safety, more needs to be done about cycle security to assure cyclists they can leave their bike and it will still be there when they return.
We’ll describe the difference between commuter needs for cycle storage and ad-hoc shopper or leisure bike parking and outline potential solutions, which already exist elsewhere. We will also explore the audience’s views on the scale of the problem, how it might be addressed and how solutions might encourage them to do more local journeys by bike.
The desired outcomes are:
Ian has led, developed and run technical and market innovations and productivity tools for Vodafone, Orange, Racal and MACH. This included launching text messaging and prepay for Vodafone in the UK and various voice, messaging and value added services for Orange in Europe and Africa.
Ian is an advisor to the Mobile Ecosytem Forum, a Patient Insight Partner with Versus Arthritis and volunteers for Reading Hydro as well as Ethical Reading. He is a member of Ethical Reading’s sustainability team and is leading the development of a new Cycle Security project along with Rob.
Rob spent over 35 years as a secondary school teacher in Islington.
Since retiring he has been involved with Launchpad in Reading as well as a number of local sustainability groups. He is a member of Reading Cycle Campaign and the West Berkshire Cycle Forum.
At Ethical Reading Rob is involved with the Ethics in Schools and Sustainability programmes and is working with Rob to develop a Cycle Security initiative.
