The Business Ethics Schools Fair is designed to prepare pupils at local secondary schools for the world of work by helping them learn how to assess nuances of right and wrong in ethical conundrums.Â
We want to get students from both state and independent secondary schools thinking about business ethics, especially those studying for A-Levels in Business, Economics, Philosophy or Religious Studies. It is also open to interested BTEC, IB and GCSE students.Â
At our first event at Leighton Park School in May 2023, students from six schools had the opportunity to discuss company values, practices and policies with representatives of five local organisations. The 2024 event was held at Queen Anne’s School, Caversham, and was attended by students from four schools and representatives of ten organisations, including Thames Valley Police. Â
It’s so positive to see schools and organisations working together to nurture young people’s understanding of ethics in the workplace.
Opening up land for oil and gas exploration would stimulate the local and regional economy enormously. If the volume of oil and gas extracted was large enough, the consequent increase in supply might help to lower prices for consumers.
But the impact on the fragile Arctic landscape and its wildlife would be devastating. And, since reducing CO2 emissions is necessary to slow down climate change, tapping into new reserves of oil and gas threatens the welfare of future generations of humans, as well as other living things.
Should oil and gas companies continue to pursue extracting natural resources in such a delicate environment?
 We’re keen include students from more schools in future fairs, especially state secondary schools.

I wanted to thank you very much for organising such a fantastic event today. Our students loved every minute of it and found the breakout sessions extremely challenging and rewarding. Thank you for organising the Ethics Fair and asking us to participate again this year. I’m sure it’s quite a logistical feat to pull off. Jing and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The students were engaged and had a wide range of interesting views. Despite the heat, the setting and hospitality at Leighton Park were both exceptional.
Helena, Arun, Isla and I would like to say a huge thank you to you and the Ethical Reading team. The day went smoothly as it was very well planned. The students were also great and well engaged, making the sessions easy to present!
We were all really impressed with the students and the level of engagement with the sessions. We hope all the students enjoyed it as well! So nice to be able to give something back!

I really enjoyed taking part in the day and, hopefully, the students learnt a lot about Grant Thornton and ethics within the business.
