Back in January 2019, and following numerous reports of job-applicants abuse, Reading Borough Council has decided to not only tackle any form of wrongdoing but also to promote and encourage ethical recruitment practices. With the support of Ethical Reading, it has initiated the launch of an ethical recruitment initiative based on a dedicated charter and breach monitoring system.
The council was keen to provide a community-anchored deterrent for job-applicant abuse and exploitation and to promote ethical recruitment practices. This is a perfect fit with Ethical Reading’s ambition to make Reading a better place to live and work and our aims to inspire, educate and collaborate.
Together we’re now offering local businesses the opportunity to declare their commitment to ethical recruitment practices by signing up to the Reading Ethical Recruitment Charter and providing guidance to ensure they walk the talk.
Job applicants can report breaches of the Charter by organisation that have signed up to it, helping to hold them to account.
Discover our three pillars of Ethical Recruitment, detailing the commitments undertaken by our members.
As an organisation based in Reading or the surrounding area, you can sign up to the charter here.
As an individual, you can report a breach of the Charter by an organisation that has signed up.
Below you can see a list of the businesses that have signed up to the Reading Ethical Recruitment Charter.
