Back in January 2019, Reading Borough Council approached us with the idea of creating a joint initiative to encourage ethical recruitment practices.
This was prompted by numerous reports of job applicants being treated unfairly. Â
The council was keen to provide a community-anchored deterrent for job-applicant abuse and exploitation and to promote ethical recruitment practices. This is a perfect fit with Ethical Reading’s ambition to make Reading a better place to live and work and our aims to inspire, educate and collaborate.
Together we’re now offering local businesses the opportunity to declare their commitment to ethical recruitment practices by signing up to the Reading Ethical Recruitment Charter and providing guidance to ensure they walk the talk.
Job applicants can report breaches of the Charter by organisations that have signed up to it, helping to hold them to account.
