Making Reading a better
place to live, work and
do business

Enabling ethical action

Ethical Reading exists to help organisations in Reading and their teams do the right thing by each other, the wider community and the environment and to thrive in the process.

It’s all about encouraging people to take a compassionate, respectful and responsible approach when making decisions at every level from the board room to everyday interactions.

What's New?

our vision is of a reading where...

a strong ethical culture prevails in organisations, people treat each other with respect, responsibility and compassion at work,  and employees feel empowered, engaged and valued.

supporting sustainable business

We’re committed to helping Reading-based organisations embed sustainability into what they do and contribute to improving the local and wider environment, including by funding the planting and care of trees around town.

Sparking An Ethical Cities Movement

We want to maximise the positive change we are creating here in Reading by helping to establish ethical hubs in different towns and cities throughout the UK and beyond, kick-starting an Ethical Cities movement.

Neurodiversity at Work logo

Our Neurodiversity at Work initiative aims to help neurodivergent people thrive at work and help local employers understand how to support them and how their organisation will benefit.

Sustainability Champions logo

By joining Ethical Reading Sustainability Champions, people who are passionate about sustainability can connect with peers at other organisations, helping them gain the confidence and know-how to achieve more.

Trees for Reading logo

We’re mobilising local businesses to help make Reading greener, healthier and happier, by supporting the planting and care of trees in the parts of town that will benefit most.

Through this initiative we encourage local secondary school students to develop their awareness and understanding of business ethics.

We’ve developed this initiative to help organisations embed a healthy and ethical culture into their working environment, so employees flourish.

Through our Ethical Recruitment Charter, in association with Reading Borough Council, we’re encouraging local organisations to declare their commitment to fair and ethical recruitment practices.
